What Cosmic Robotics does
Cosmic-1 is an autonomous heavy-lift robot that places panels on solar farms, and it has been deployed on some of the largest solar projects in the United States, where the company says it more than doubled labor productivity across tens of thousands of panel installs. Cosmic is expanding into data center construction and is building lunar construction robotics under contract with NASA. James Emerick founded it after deploying autonomous earthmoving robots at Built Robotics, and it went through Y Combinator's Summer 2026 batch.
The secret behind Cosmic Robotics
Utility-scale solar is limited by how fast crews can install panels, not by how fast factories can make them. A robot that lifts and places panels beside the crew turns a labor shortage into a question of how many robots are on site.
Why NZVC invested in Cosmic Robotics
We backed Cosmic Robotics because demand for electricity from data centers and electrification is driving a build-out of solar farms that construction crews cannot staff. Cosmic already has robots working on large US solar farms, the same machine extends to data center construction, and its NASA work keeps it on the path its founders set out on, building on the Moon and Mars.
