DotterelDotterel builds beamforming microphone arrays for film, broadcast and live sport.
Dotterel's Konos Digital packs 80 MEMS microphone elements into one array whose pickup beam can be set from a narrow 60 degrees to a 300 degree room, steered electronically without moving the mic, or formed into a matched stereo pair, all over a single network cable carrying AES67 and SMPTE ST 2110 audio. Noise suppression on the mic removes wind, rumble and the whine of drone rotors, a legacy of the company's start in recording audio from drones. The original KONOS won the NAB Show Product of the Year award for audio in 2023.
A shotgun microphone only hears where someone points it. An array that steers its beam in software can follow the ball across a pitch on a command from tracking software, with no operator swinging the mic.
We backed Dotterel because its beamforming work solves a problem every broadcaster and film crew has, getting clean sound from a distance in a noisy place. Its first product won an industry award, and Konos Digital plugs into the network audio standards broadcasters already run.
