NZVC

Send us the deck.

Every deck that reaches NZVC gets read. We built software called Maia that reads it the day it lands and writes the summary. A partner reads the ones that clear. You hear back either way.

NZVC invests at pre-seed and seed, usually pre-revenue and up to around $1M ARR. First checks run NZ$100,000 to NZ$400,000, with follow-on of NZ$300,000 to NZ$700,000 in the companies that are working.

Pitch us: team@nzvc.co.nz

We built Spok to run the fund, and Maia runs on it.

How a pitch moves.

  1. 01

    Send the deck.

Email it to team@nzvc.co.nz with a line on what you are building and what you are raising.

  2. 02

    Maia reads it.

Maia pulls out the team, the market and the traction, and files the company. No deck sits in an inbox waiting for somebody to open it.

  3. 03

    A partner reads the strongest.

The call is made by people who have built and sold companies, not by the software.

  4. 04

    You get an answer.

We come back to you either way.

What we look for.

  • We invest before there is traction.Vessev was an idea and a small prototype when we backed it, and its VS-9 Kermadec now carries paying passengers on the Waitematā.
  • We back founders who lived the problem.Liam Kampshof is a sharemilker’s son who came home from five years of building blood-testing devices in London and started prototyping Bovonic’s QuadSense in his parents’ garage.
  • We back the founder over the first idea.Phone makers killed VXT’s voicemail product, so Luke Campbell went and sat with law firms until Saunders and Co became the anchor customer for VXT Phone.
  • We back work that takes decades.Dawn Aerospace started in 2017, and in November 2024 its Mk-II Aurora became the first civil aircraft to pass the sound barrier since Concorde.

We back deep tech, bio and healthcare, ag-tech and climate, AI and B2B SaaS, fintech, and consumer and marketplace companies. Most of what we back starts in New Zealand or Australia and sells to the world from the first year. All 60 companies we have announced are on the portfolio wall.

We stay in.

We are usually the first institutional money in, and we hold room to come back at the next round.

Guides for founders.

Two long-form guides written by NZVC partners for founders who are raising.

  • Glen’s Speed-Pitch GuideGlen Anderson has heard 400 speed pitches over four years of angel investing. This is what he wants a founder to do with the three minutes.
  • Fundraising 101 for early stage startupsVishal Chaddha co-founded Xelp, which went public in India in 2019, and now invests. This is his walk through a first institutional round.
