Andromeda Surgical raised a $15 million Series A led by Standard Capital to bring autonomy into the operating room. It keeps the robot simple and puts the value in software with the surgeon in the loop, and it has completed the world's first robotic holmium laser enucleation of the prostate.
We backed Andromeda Surgical because the value in surgical robotics is moving out of the hardware and into the software, and a simple robot paired with good models costs less and reaches more hospitals. The founders came out of medical devices and autonomous vehicles and took the system from concept to clinical use in under two years. Bringing expert-level surgery to more hospitals and more procedures is a large opportunity, and a software-led approach scales in a way traditional robotics cannot.
