Generalist was reported at a $3 billion valuation on a $200 million round

Generalist was reported to have raised $200 million at a $3 billion valuation, less than two years after Pete Florence, Andy Zeng and Andrew Barry left Google DeepMind and Boston Dynamics to start it. The company trains one foundation model to drive many kinds of robot hands rather than writing separate control software for each machine.

We backed Generalist because robotics has been held back by software written one machine at a time, and a single model that drives many kinds of robot hands changes what a new robot costs to bring into service. The figures here come from TechCrunch, which cited sources rather than an announcement, and two other outlets carried the story the next day.
