Kara's sign language avatars added te reo Māori concepts

Kara's avatars became the first anywhere to carry te reo Māori concepts and signs. The company built its New Zealand Sign Language system with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Foundation, working from a library of more than 10,000 captured signs.

We backed Kara because Deaf communities have long been served by expensive, slow, human-only sign language production, and Kara turns that into scalable software. Every language and dialect the avatars learn makes the library worth more, and the work only counts if Deaf users trust it, which is why Kara built the system with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Foundation rather than around it. That combination of technical depth and community trust is what we backed.
